End of Year Review

As this school year is coming to an end I am reflecting on what an amazing albeit very busy school year it has been. I learned a lot during my first year at Clermont and there is still much learning to be done, but I'd like to update you on the things that our students accomplished this school year.

A big part of my job is to incorporate our school counseling curriculum and I am happy to say that we completed each and every lesson this school year! In Kindergarten we learned about how to show good listening, our feelings and how to identify them, and the difference between being a tattler and reporting bigger problems to adults, In first grade we learned about different ways to solve problems and conflicts, how we can learn from our mistakes, and how community helpers influence us and our community. Second graders learned how to be good upstanders and how to exhibit self-control. Third graders also learned different ways to solve conflicts with others, how to set SMART goals. Third grade also completed an interest inventory to identify what careers match what they are interested in. Fourth graders started out the year learning how to be excellent upstanders, how to be good organizers and how that can impact us now and in the future. Fourth graders favorite lesson this year was our teamwork lesson as they worked together to accomplish a difficult task. Ending out the year, fourth graders took a look at the different options available to them once they complete high school. In fifth grade we focused on the best ways to solve conflicts and problems, we learned about our responsibilities through making personal schedules. Fifth graders participated in a small career fair organized by North Museum this year and we spent a good deal of time talking about change as they are preparing for the transition to middle school.

All grade levels had lessons on bullying and the importance of attendance. Through these lessons not only do we help students investigate careers and their interests to start their exploration of the world of work, but we also are teaching students the softer skills like listening and solving problems.

All students participated in the Great Kindness Challenge and Mix It Up at Lunch day with help from 7th and 8th grade student ambassadors from Swift Middle School.

Overall, it was a wonderful school year. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and look for more updates in the 2019-2020 school year.
